Avocado benefits for the heart

Did you know that eating avocado every day can help heart health? Besides adding flavor and freshness to our meals, this fruit benefits the heart thanks to its high levels of monounsaturated fats.

Eat avocado for a healthy heart

Avocado has a compound called beta-sitosterol, which has a chemical structure very similar to that of cholesterol. Several studies have shown that the intake of this compound helps maintain a healthy level of cholesterol, which can directly affect your cardiovascular health if it's not properly controlled.

Besides being an excellent substitute for foods high in saturated fat, avocado can be enjoyed in many recipes and in various ways. Here we share some ideas:

  • Slice it up and complement your dishes with an avocado: salads, tacos, eggs, rice, beans, soups, etc.
  • Add it to a smoothie with low-fat yogurt and fresh fruit.
  • Use it to make a creamy sauce that goes along with whole wheat pasta.
  • Puree the avocados and spread them on tortillas, toast, and even a sandwich.

Great source of vitamins

Avocados are full of nutrients, minerals and contain around 20 vitamins, such as C, E, K, and B-6, in addition to riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, magnesium, potassium, and omega 3. Remember that eating foods with healthy fats will improve our heart health, lower cholesterol, keep us full for longer, and curb cravings for fried foods or other fatty foods.
